Ox-eye Daisy

Ox-eye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare)

This common daisy is found across the eastern U.S. in old fields, pastures, and roadsides. A perennial, it blooms from May through August. A variety of butterflies including skippers, sulphurs, monarchs, fritillaries and red admirals are attracted to its blossoms. Small predators, such as the assassin bug and flower spider, can be found waiting under the daisy for a careless butterfly. The “She loves me - She loves me not” game probably started with an ox-eye daisy.
