Please note that the Stillman Nature Center is available during the week, by reservation, to school classes, Audubon chapters, garden clubs, and other groups. Also, we can bring our raptors to your classroom or meeting place. Check the Owl Outreach page for more information.

THURSDAY TREKKERS
Join us outside for a healthy hour-long walk around a lake, through the woods, and who knows where else? Why not add Stillman to your list of exercise options? Come prepared to hike the trails with sturdy winter boots.

SUNDAY MORNING BIRD WALKS
Mike Levin will lead a morning bird walk. Migration will be under way and you never know what we might find. Binoculars and field guides are a must. If you don’t have any, don’t worry, Stillman does. Please call 847-428-OWLS to make reservations.

BIRD BANDING
Watch Mark Spreyer, a licensed bird bander, measure, weigh and record data about our resident and migratory birds. Birds are not caught in a predictable manner, so come prepared to hike the trails. With luck, you’ll see a bird in the hand and two in the bush. If it is raining, the banding open house will be cancelled.

WOODY PLANTS
As the leaves start to turn color, join Stillman’s naturalist as he shows you how to identify some of our Midwestern trees, shrubs, and vines. Easy to remember tips and simple hand-outs will inspire you to open your own “branch office.” Come prepared to be out in the weather.

MONDAY MEDITATIONS
Join Meditation Facilitator and Stillman volunteer, Rivian Wolf, as she guides you through a series of meditations designed to help you relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature. These meditations will take place on the third Monday of the month, Meet in the parking lot and come dressed for the weather, It is only a short walk to the locations Rivian has selected.

WILD WOODPECKERS
Think about it? You make your living by beating your skull against tree trunks!
Well, that’s what woodpeckers do. As you might imagine, they have some amazing
anatomical adaptations that make this possible. We’ll show you signs of their fascinating
drillings and, with any luck, actual woodpeckers. Please bring your binoculars.
If you don’ have any, we’ll have some to share.

DON’T MISS RAPTOR SUNDAY!
Now’s your chance to meet the snowy, great horned, barred, barn, and screech owls. Stillman staff will also present a peregrine falcon, turkeyvulture, plus broad-winged and red-shouldered hawks. We will bring the birds out so you can get a clear view. Bring a camera and a friend! Drop by anytime between 1:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon.
In order to regulate the number of visitors, we may temporarily close the gates. Once some folks leave, the gates will be reopened.
