Calendar of Events

Watch Mark Spreyer, a licensed bird bander, and Robert Clauss measure, weigh and record data about our resident birds. Birds are not caught in a predictable manner, so come prepared to hike the trails. With luck, you’ll see a bird in the hand and two in the bush. If it is raining, the banding open house will be cancelled.

Dates: Sundays, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4

Time: 9:00AM to Noon

Fee: None

Join us outside for a healthy hour-long walk around a lake, through the woods, and who knows where else? Why not add Stillman to your list of exercise options? Come prepared to hike the trails with hiking boots or sturdy shoes.

Birds of Prey

We are looking for hard workers who can help us with our raptors. These volunteers work on Friday or Saturday mornings. Stillman is offering a 3-week raptor handler training program. You will be paired with one of our experienced staff. Two hours of cleaning the raptor enclosures will be followed by an hour-long clas about birds of prey. Attendance for all dates is required. Only a few openings are available so please call or send an email if interested.

Dates: Saturdays, Aug. 13, Aug. 20 & Aug. 27

Time: 9:00AM

Fee: $75 (includes educational materials)

Public Solar Observing Day

The Northwest Suburban Astronomers (NSA), in cooperation with the Stillman Nature Center, will be hosting a public solar observing session in the main parking lot area. View and learn about our closest star, with the help of NSA members and their telescopes. See the Sun with your very eyes through member telescopes which are modified for solar viewing, or enjoy the images that astrophotographers may be capturing.  Please be mindful to not stare at the Sun with your own eyes or any un-prepared optics. You are welcome to bring your own telescope or binoculars as long as they are outfitted with safe solar observing equipment. Sun screen is also advised. In the event of inclement weather the event will be cancelled and tried again at a future date.

No registration is required.

Date: Saturday, Sept 4

Time: 1:00 - 4:00 PM

Fee: None

Ever wonder about these creatures that come out at night? Why are bats so mysterious? Join us for bat information, a campfire, and roasted marshmallows. We’ll also be listening to sounds of nocturnal wildlife. Speaking of which, we’ll end the evening with a visit to our resident owls.

Date: Saturday, Sept 10
