SUNDAY MORNING BIRD WALKS

David Johnson, formerly of the Wild Bird Center in Fox River Grove, has come out of “retirement” to lead our morning bird walks. Migration will be under way and you never know what we might find. Binoculars and field guides are a must. If you don’t have any, don’t worry, Stillman does. Please call 847-428-OWLS to make reservations.

WILD WOODPECKERS

Think about it? You make your living by beating your skull against tree trunks! Well, that’s what woodpeckers do. As you might imagine, they have some amazing anatomical adaptations that make this possible. We’ll show you signs of their fascinating drillings and, with any luck, actual woodpeckers. Please bring your binoculars. If you don’t have any, we’ll have some to share.

Date: Sunday, Sept. 28

Time: 2:00 PM
Age: 8 years and up

Fee: None

WOODY PLANTS

As the leaves turn color, join Stillman’s naturalist as he shows you how to identify some of our Midwestern trees, shrubs, and vines. Easy to remember tips and simple hand-outs will inspire you to open your own “branch office.” Come prepared to be out in the weather. Please call or email in advance if you plan on attending.

Date: Sunday, Oct. 5

Time: 2:00 PM

Fee: None

DON’T MISS RAPTOR SUNDAY!

Now’s your chance to meet the snowy, great
horned, barred, barn, and screech owls. Stillman
staff will also present a peregrine falcon, turkey
vulture, plus broad-winged and red-shouldered hawks. We will bring the birds out so you can get a clear view. Bring a camera and a friend! Drop by anytime between 1:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon.

In order to regulate the number of visitors, we may temporarily close the gates. Once some folks leave, the gates will be reopened.

Date: Sunday, October 12

Fee: $20/car
